Violin
Longtime Django Campers will remember violinist Bastien Ribot—he was here in 2015 as the R in RP Quartet. Born in Toulouse in 1986, Bastien immersed himself in the world of music by studying classical music under the tutelage of Aimée Auriacombe at the conservatory. His encounter with jazz manouche marked a turning point in his career, however, leading him to share the stage with iconic figures of the genre such as Angelo Debarre, Steve Laffont, Tchavolo Schmitt, Rocky Gresset, and Stochelo Rosenberg. After honing his skills at the conservatory, Bastien immersed himself in the world of jazz alongside Didier Lockwood at his school, from which he graduated, and where he now teaches.
Building on this experience, he founded the RP Quartet, alongside Edouard Pennes, Rémi Oswald, and Damien Varaillon. This group has performed at festivals around the world (including ours) and in prestigious Parisian venues, leaving an indelible musical mark. The RP Quartet has released four albums on the Frémeaux & Associés label.

Alongside his commitments with the RP Quartet, Ribot is involved in other projects such as the Corsican Quartet, François Poitou Quintet, and the Gwen Cahue Quartet, with which he joins us at Django in June this year. A talented composer as well as performer, here’s a tune penned by Bastien himself, Carbonade, performed with Lo Triò.
