Violin
Alexandre comes to us as a member of Les Violons de Bruxelles, in which he comprises the viola section though he does play the diminutive cousin of the esteemed viola as well. He began on violin, in fact, at a very young age and was drawn to jazz – particularly swing – as a teenager. This passion led him to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Subsequently he was to be found performing in various jazz, swing and French chanson outfits in which he came to know and love the repertoire of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, which well suits his playing style: traditional, lyrical, exceptional. Here he is with Les Violons in early 2023 in South Africa:
For the past several years, Alexandre has also been part of the Fapy Lafertin New Quartet (along with two others who will join us at DiJ this year: Renaud Dardenne on guitar and Cédric Raymond on double bass). Here they are playing a Gershwin classic.
Alexandre is featured among the artists that make up Denis Chang’s DC Music School. Blues in Bb anyone?
