Whit Smith is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and founding member of the acclaimed Western swing trio, The Hot Club of Cowtown. Known among guitarists for his energetic rhythmic style and creative harmonic navigation, Whit has nearly 30 years of touring, performing, and recording experience. His style honors influential 1930s and 1940s guitarists while showcasing his own innovations.
Playing with Hot Club of Cowtown helped develop his distinctive sound: “Playing in a trio left room to grow a bigger, more animated sound, so I developed ways of harmonizing around the melody with double stops to make us sound like a larger band.” Originally from New England, Whit has lived in New York and Tulsa before settling in Austin, Texas, in 1997. He admits to suffering from Vintage Guitar and Amplifier Acquisition Syndrome.
