Originally from Portland, Maine, Gabriel Terracciano is a violinist and composer currently residing in New York City. Classically trained from a young age, Gabe has spent his career focusing on playing the violin in a variety of non-classical genres, including jazz, bluegrass, rock, and hip hop. Along with leading his own bands, he is a member of the two-time Grammy award winning Turtle Island String Quartet and Tatiana Eva-Marie’s Avalon Jazz Band.
Gabe has two albums released as a leader – In Flight (2020) and Three Part Invention (2021), both available on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms. Along with his performing career, Gabe is also a committed educator. He is a former adjunct instructor in violin and guitar at NYU, and has worked for educational organizations including Tufts Community Music, Maine Jazz Camp, and The geniusHive School (Accra, Ghana).
Gabe has been the recipient of multiple honors including a Grammy nomination in 2022 for his work on the Terence Blanchard/Turtle Island Quartet album “Absence”. In addition, he received Third Prize in the 2018 Zbigniew Seifert Jazz Violin Competition and was the 2018 winner of the Freshgrass Fiddle Competition.
Gabe holds undergraduate degrees from Tufts University and the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Master’s degree from New York University. He has studied with teachers including Tanya Kalmanovitch, Don Doane, Cecil McBee, John Scofield, Ari Hoenig, and Rob Thomas.
