Violin
“Swissmade” has always been a trusted label, right? Hand-crafted watches. Fine chocolates. Impenetrable bank accounts. Well, go ahead and apply it to Eva Slongo’s musicianship as well. Her fans include Ninine Garcia, Kamlo Barré, Wawau Adler… Oh, and Bireli. So, permission granted.
Eva earned both concert and teaching diplomas in classical violin at conservatory in Switzerland. Her jazz studies began with Pierre Blanchard and later at Didier Lockwood’s school, under the master’s direction. Having made the classical-to-jazz journey herself, she can offer expert guidance to classically trained musicians seeking to move from score to lead sheet.
On top of her technical chops, swing and sharp phrasing on violin, Eva is also a fine jazz vocalist. We had some wonderful vocal workshops last year so we’re hoping she’ll help carry that tradition forward in our “special topics” sessions this year. Maybe she’ll join this year’s “French chanson” sessions, or offer a “scat and play” workshop. With Eva’s skillset – as a teacher, violinist and vocalist — the possibilities are endless. Here she is putting those skills to work with a couple old friends of Django in June, Wawau Adler and Romain Vuillemin. The tune is known to most English-speakers as “More” (Ti Guarderò Nel Cuore), written by Riz Ortolani.
