[Please note: Until January of 2019, much of the information on the Django in June website pertains to our 2018 program. We leave it available throughout the year so the curious can see how we generally do things. The website should be fully updated by early January of 2019. If you’d like to be update when that’s the case and early-bird registration has begun be sure to join our mailing list. Thanks for your interest…see you in Djune! ~Andrew]
Thanks for visiting! Django in June is New England’s premier occasion to celebrate, study and just plain enjoy the musical tradition associated with the inimitable Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. That tradition is now known by many names: Gypsy jazz, hot (or Hot Club) jazz, Gypsy swing, jazz gitan… Whatever you call it, it offers one of the most ebullient, accessible and unique jazz styles on the planet.
Our flagship offering is Django Camp, which gives musicians the opportunity to immerse themselves in Gypsy jazz under the tutelage of world-class artists from both sides of the Atlantic. Django Camp is held on the campus of Smith College in Northampton, MA, where participants eat, sleep, study and “djam” to their heart’s content. Locals and visitors can get in on the act by attending our grand finale of weekend concerts at the historic Academy of Music as well as other, smaller offerings around town.
Whether you plan to join us for a full week or a few splendid hours, I look forward to sharing another Django in June with you!
Allons-y mes amis!
